Toji Temple (Kyo-o-gokoku-ji), the head temple of Shingon Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage site, stands as one of Kyoto's most representative temples. The tour begins at the "Shoshibo" (usually closed to the public), a chamber originally built to welcome members of the imperial family. Here, you will view magnificent fusuma paintings by the Japanese painter Insho Domoto. Accompanied by the guidance of a resident monk, the tour continues to the National Treasure "Kondo Hall" and the Important Cultural Property "Kodo Hall," before entering the first floor of the National Treasure "Five-Storied Pagoda," which stands majestically in the spring night.
