One of Kyoto’s most iconic temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kiyomizu-dera serves as a setting for this exclusive early morning private tour led personally by Shoun Onishi, the temple’s current steward and priest.
This rare and refined experience offers guest privileged access to explore Kiyomizu-dera before the temple opens to the public, accompanied by Onishi himself as he shares his insights and reflections in the peaceful pre-dawn atmosphere.
A highlight of the tour is a special visit to the Hozoden—normally closed to the public—where Important Cultural Properties are carefully preserved. Guest will have the exclusive chance to view treasured Buddhist statues, including the Standing Eleven-faced Kannon and the Standing Bishamonten, along with vividly painted votive plaques (ema), providing an exceptional and intimate.
To conclude the tour, guests are invited into the normally private Joju-in for a meaningful conversation with Shoun Onishi while gazing upon the famed Garden of the Moon.
Experience the solemn beauty of Kiyomizu-dera in the stillness of early morning. This deeply personal journey offers not only breathtaking scenery, but also memorable human connection and introspection—a moment of true renewal beyond ordinary sightseeing.
