Japan's largest zen temple complex is Myoshinji, with over 40 subtemples in its substantial grounds. One of the most renowned and well-established subtemples is Taizo-in, home to one of Japan's oldest ink paintings, Catching Catfish with a Gourd (hyōnen-zu), painted by Josetsu in 1413, which is a National Treasure of Japan, as well as the dry garden designed by a painter of the Muromachi period, Kanō Motonobu. The yoko-en pond garden is a Japanese style garden with a path around a central pond. It is the perfect location for an introduction to zazen sitting meditation, followed by a special asa-gayu breakfast made in the Buddhist shojin vegan tradition by Ajiro.

Duration: approx. 90 minutes (Allow around 40 minutes travel time to/from Taizo-in Temple, part of the Myoshinji complex.)
