Autumn Night Private Tour: UNESCO World Heritage Toji Temple

Toji Temple, established with the founding of the ancient capital Heian-kyo, stands as one of Kyoto's most representative temples. Celebrated also as a distinguished destination for autumn foliage, its autumn evening illuminations create a picturesque scene that unfolds like a beautiful painting before your eyes.

We have prepared a private tour for guests to quietly enjoy this breathtaking scenery to their heart's content. On this tour, you will visit Toji Temple just as regular night viewing hours conclude, and be guided to the "Shoshibo" (usually closed to the public), a chamber originally built to welcome members of the imperial family. Here, you will view the National Treasure "Rengemon Gate" on the west side of the garden—from which Kobo Daishi Kukai is said to have departed for Mt. Koya—as well as magnificent fusuma and wall paintings by the Japanese painter Insho Domoto.

Accompanied by the guidance of a resident monk, the tour continues to the National Treasure "Kondo Hall" and the Important Cultural Property "Kodo Hall," which house numerous precious Buddhist statues, before entering the normally closed National Treasure "Five-Storied Pagoda."
