Beginning Sunday, December 1st, HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO is celebrating the season with a festive promotion inspired by the theme of fragrance or “kaori.” Reflecting the hotel's concept of Embracing Japan’s Beauty, the event features a signature scent that will fill the air around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. The aromatic journey extends to festive dinners, a charming afternoon tea, and indulgent spa treatments, all thoughtfully designed to create memorable moments in a stunning setting.
The hotel’s exclusive fragrance was crafted by aroma designer Tomoko Saito, who drew inspiration from the pine trees found throughout the hotel’s gardens. This refreshing scent blends the essence of pine with notes of Kyoto yuzu citrus, Kitayama cedar, and kuromoji (spicebush), evoking a sense of tranquility and encouraging you to take a deep, relaxing breath.
From December 1st to December 25th, a scented Christmas tree will be displayed in the hotel lounge. Decorated with elegant ornaments and gift boxes made from paulownia wood, the tree will be infused with this signature fragrance, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests can also purchase the signature fragrance as an essential oil from THE SHOP on the B1 floor, making it easy to bring home a delightful reminder of their stay.

Born in a family which lasts for ten generations in Kyoto. After getting experiences with some corporate life, she started pursuing her passion for creating scent. Especially the scent of sandalwood inspired her to do so. Besides producing custom scent for business enterprises in and outside of Japan, she gets quite a few art related projects such as creating scent for museums. In recent years, she has been active to expand the possibilities of scent such as producing custom scent for corporations, brands, cosmetics, cordinating with distilleries, doing marketing research and so on. Her unique style of using classic Japanese wooden scent stands out among other experts and she continues to inspire people from a wide range of generations to learn the new value of scent.
