Tōji Temple, one of Kyoto's most iconic landmarks, is especially breathtaking during the autumn months, when the evening illuminations bring the temple’s gardens to life. This exclusive night tour allows you to experience this magical scene without the crowds. Begin your visit as the temple nears closing time, and gain access to the Shōshibō, a private room originally designed to welcome imperial family members. Inside, you’ll admire stunning paintings and murals by the renowned artist Inshō Dōmoto. The tour continues with a guided exploration of the temple’s most significant structures, including the Kondō (Golden Hall) and Kōdō (Lecture Hall), before concluding with a rare visit to the Five-Storied Pagoda, a National Treasure that is typically off-limits. Nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Nishijin, Hokyō-ji Temple is a hidden gem rarely open to the public. Known as the "Doll Temple," it has a rich history as the residence of princesses and noblewomen. This exclusive autumn tour, reserved for our hotel guests, provides an intimate experience of this peaceful nunnery. Enjoy a guided tour of the main hall, followed by a Dharma talk from one of the resident nuns. You'll also have the opportunity to meditate while gazing out over the temple’s beautiful gardens. The tour includes a viewing of exquisite artworks, including sliding door paintings attributed to Kanō Tan'yū and barrier paintings by Maruyama Ōkyo, whose "Puppy Screens" hold historical ties to the Mitsui family.
